Christmas 2004

The familiar symbols and characters of the Nativity are again the central elements of the 2004 Australia Christmas stamp designs. Designed by graphic designer Jeanette Fallon, the richly decorative style of the illustrations suggests beautiful Christmas baubles.

The designs are deliberately intricate and detailed, where the surfaces are ornamented and embellished. The use of gold alludes to the richness of the religious icons, while the depth of colour captures the richness of Christmas baubles.

Mary and baby Jesus are being illustrated in the 45c stamp, the angel appears to the shepherds in the 50c stamp while the three wise men are being shown in the AU$1.00 stamp.
