Istana Maimoon, Medan

A must visit tourist destination in Medan.

Istana Maimoon (or the Maimoon Palace), was the legacy of the Deli Sultanate. Built in 1888, this beautiful palace bore elements of Malay, Islamic, Spanish, Dutch, Indian and Italian in its design.

It was built in the centre of the Deli Kingdom, present day Jalan Brig. Jend. Katamso, Medan. There are family photographs, furnishings as well as old weapons on display in the palace.

The descendants of the Deli Sultanate no longer have political power now and currently live in Kalimantan. Having said that, the Young Sultan still pays a visit to this palace during important occasions as well as festivals.
