Postal History of Kedah

These commemorative stamps are issued in conjunction with the centenary of the issuance of the first Kedah definitive stamps in 1912. Prior to that, Siamese stamps were used in Kedah for postage purposes.

This issue features the following designs :

1.  A sheaf of paddy from the old 1c design
2.  A farmer ploughing the paddy field from the old 50c design
3.  Balai Besar, a prominent building of Alor Star, from the old $5 design

A commemorative stamp, as the name suggests, is a postage stamp issued on a significant date to honour or commemorate an event, person, place or even an object.

Commemorative stamps are usually available for a limited time and in limited quantities, usually until supplies run out.
