Golden Jubilee - Malaysia Independence

A delegation led by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj back in Jan 1956 headed off to London with a mission to negotiate for Malaya's independence. The negotiation was successful, and the cry of Merdeka was heard throughout Malaya on 31 Aug 1957.

In 2007, Malaysia celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its independence. Malaysia is no longer a colony and have moved forward with achievements in various fields.

The 30 sen stamps depict the historical event back in 31 Aug 1957 as well as the nation's achievements after 50 years of independence. The 50 sen stamps depict the important moment of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj signing the Declaration of Independence as well as the logo of the Golden Jubilee celebration.

Included in the stamp issue is the Stamp Booklet, which portrays the five leaders whose roles were significant in enabling Malaysia towards achieving its independence. They are Dato' Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Tun V.T. Sambanthan.

Meanwhile, the miniature sheet is a tribute to the strong, capable and visionary leaders of the nation. The RM5 stamp depicts the national flag, known as "Jalur Gemilang". The bottom of the miniature sheet features the first five Prime Ministers of Malaysia - Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Dato Seri' Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

It was confined to the Army and the Malayan Railways then.

Confessions of an Old Boy

Kam Raslan's very first book. Confessions of an Old Boy, the old boy being Dato' Hamid, includes seven articles or stories as been to and seen by Dato' Hamid.

Dato' Hamid, the Old Boy as well as civil servant, who claimed that he has been everywhere and seen it all. In this book, he spills the beans on his adventures dating back as far as the 1940s, all the way from Kuala Lumpur to Monte Carlo, Los Angeles, Algiers, London and much more.

Shameless, exciting and funny, Dato' Hamid's life and adventures chart the financial, political and amorous relationships that have made Malaysia what it is today.

ISBN-13 : 978-983-3445-00-4
ISBN-10 : 983-3445-00-4
Author : Kam Raslan
Publisher : Marshall Cavendish
Published : 2007

A book that I truly enjoy. While reading it, I really thought that Dato' Hamid is a real person, until when I googled it and found out that Dato' Hamid is fictional. He is just a creation of Kam Raslan.

Perhaps it's the way that Kam Raslan has written it, engaging us straight into the tale, and hence believing that Dato' Hamid is a real person. Worth a read.

Happiness Is ...

Happiness is sharing - Looking at how Linus shares his blue blanket with Snoopy.

One of the shortest paths to happiness is to simply share something with someone, be it a photo, a meal, a favourite song, a good memory - anything that you like and enjoy. Sharing is a tried and true recipe for happiness, as sure as a chocolate chip cookie!

Which is why I choose to have this blog, so that I can share with others those things that I enjoy and treasure. Hope you enjoy them :)
