Cat's Favourite Vacation

If you were to take your lovely fuzzy for a vacation, guess where would be their favourite destination? Their perfect destination would be no other place but the Sahara Desert.

This place offers the best loo to these fuzzies, that they will automatically make a pilgrimage to this paradise of theirs ...

LOL, just something fuzzy-funny to end the month of Tock-tober :)

Christmas Island Christmas 1999

Christmas Island as the home of Santa Claus - the theme of Christmas Island 1999 Christmas stamps. Based on this idea, Santa Claus is seen doing various activities on Christmas Island.

The 40c stamp depicts Santa Claus having a nap in his hammock at the beach on Christmas Eve, with his little helpers, the Red Crabs, tending to his needs - shining his boots and fanning him with a palm leaf.

The 45c stamp shows Santa at his dinner table on Christmas Day, sharing his festive fare with the fauna of Christmas Island.

Santa is captured taking off in his fully-laden sleight, pulled by a pair of female and male Abbott's Boobies in the 95c stamp.

A very lovely set of Christmas stamps, which not only appeal to children, but also avid collectors, I would say.

H.M. Queen Sirikit's 80th Birthday Anniversary

Born 12 Aug 1932, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit is the queen consort of Bhumibol Adulyadej, King (Rama IX) of Thailand. Queen Sirikit was appointed Queen Regent in 1956. As the consort of the king who is the world's longest-reigning head of state, Her Majesty is also the world's longest-serving consort of a monarch.

Her Majesty had been supporting His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in His Majesty's duties to improve the Thai people's lives and alleviate their problems continuously. Her Majesty's fame has been accepted in international level and global-renowned organisations.

Her Majesty has long been performing a variety of charitable activities and often provides assistance to needy families. Her tireless efforts in helping to improve the well-being of all Thais have been well recognised in the hearts of Thai people.

In conjunction with Her Majesty's 80th birthday celebration, Thailand Post has issued a set of commemorative stamps which elegantly show portrait drawings of Her Majesty at every ten years of age. In addition, the very best of this collection is a special design (the middle stamp in above second cover) depicting a side portrait of Her Majesty wearing tiara, with pearl effect ink and embossing technique as well as 22 karat gold embossed on the stamp texts.

The colour of the stamp sheets reflect the birth day of the Queen. According to Buddhist/Hindu tradition, blue is associated with Friday, which is the birth day of the Queen. Interesting!

Date of Issue : 12 Aug 2012
Postmark : Bangkok
Denomination : 8 x 5 Baht and 40 Baht
Stamp Size : 40mm x 40mm
Printing Process : Lithography (Hot Foil Stamping and Embossing), Multi-colour

Queen Sirikit's birthday, as is the king's, is a national holiday, and is also Mothers' Day in Thailand. Mother’s Day was first introduced to Thailand on 15 Apr 1950. In 1976, Mother’s Day was changed to 12 Aug to commemorate the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Mother of all Thai people.

I bought the above covers as a memento during my visit to Phuket in 2012, just a day before Her Majesty's 80th birthday. We were told that no alcohol would be sold or served on this special day, as a respect to Her Majesty.

Christmas 1998

Christmas, celebrating the birth of Christ, is one of the high point of the Christian calendar. More so in Australia, as Christmas also heralds summer and long holidays following the end of the school holiday.

One of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, Ken Done, has illustrated traditional scenes for the 1998 Christmas stamps. The artist has provided a contemporary treatment of the traditional Christmas story, at the same time reminding the original meaning of Christmas.

The 40c stamp features the three kings who came to pay homage to the newborn child. The 45c features the nativity scene. Meanwhile, Mary and Joseph are shown travelling to Bethlehem in the AU$1.00 stamp.

Date of Issue : 2 Nov 1998
Denomination : 40c, 45c and AU$1.00
Stamp Size : 37.5mm x 26mm
Paper : CPL
Printing Process : Offset Lithography

Ken Done is known for his brightly coloured Australian designs. In 1992, Ken’s services to art, design and tourism were recognised with an Order of Australia.

The Order of Australia is an order of chivalry established on 14 Feb 1975 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia, to recognise Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or for meritorious service.

Triumph In The Skies 2

This is too cute not to be shared. The main characters in the latest TVB series, Triumph In The Skies 2, being nicely and adorably depicted ...

If you have watched this series, how do you find it? Do you prefer this sequel, or the prequel, i.e. the first Triumph In The Skies back in 2003?

Christmas 1984

The first Christmas issue stamps in my collection which I would wish to share are those issued by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications of Samoa in 1984.

The stamp design features a set of 3 panel paintings by Italian Renaissance master, Raphael. Painted in 1507, these three small panels illustrate Faith, Hope and Charity, flanked by winged cherubs who carry their characteristics - allusive to Christ, object of Faith; trusting attitudes for Hope; a brazier with flames and a basin full of coins for Charity.

It is quite likely that Charity occupied the central position, flanked by Hope on the left and by Faith on the right.

Date of Issue : 7 Nov 1984
Postmark : Apia, W. Samoa
Denomination : 25 sene, 35 sene and $1.00
Stamp Size : 48mm x 20mm

Perhaps one of the most issued stamps are those with Christmas theme. Christmas stamps are postage stamps with Christmas theme and intended for use on seasonal mail such as Christmas cards.

76 Days to Xmas

76 days to Christmas! Seems a bit too early to countdown now, as Halloween is still a few weeks away, and Halloween is celebrated way before Christmas!

Having said that, it's not too early to start sharing some philatelic items issued in conjunction with Christmas celebration. Many nations around the world will issue Christmas stamps - postage stamps with Christmas theme and intended for use on seasonal mail such as Christmas cards.

Over the next few weeks, I would be sharing some Christmas stamps in my collection, so I do hope you enjoy them.

And also I happen to come across above Snoopy's countdown to Christmas, so I would like to share out this lovely thing here as well :)

63 Years of Peanuts

Peanuts, an American comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, made its first appearance 63 years ago on 2 Oct 1950.

Arguably the longest story ever told by one human being, the last strip was published on 14 Feb 2000.

The first strip showed Charlie Brown walking by two other young children, Shermy and Patty, where Shermy lauds Charlie Brown as he walks by, but then tells Patty how he hates him in the last panel.

Snoopy was also an early character in the strip, first appearing in the third strip on 4 Oct 1950.
