Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, Guangzhou

Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street (上下九步行街), or simply Shangxiajiu (上下九), is one of the busiest commercial pedestrian street in China. It is the first commercial pedestrian street in Guangzhou City.

Located in the Liwan District of the old town of Xiguan, this street is lined with more than 300 shops, with a mixed showcase of architecture, cuisine and folk customs.

Its architecture features the characteristics of south European and Cantonese style. The featured Qi Lou, an old building style that exists in this city and its neighboring areas, reflects the strong Lingnan Culture.

One of my colleagues told me that things here are relatively cheap, and should shop here. Well, I rarely shop when I travel, hence I did not buy anything. But just walking along here is still a good experience, as one will feel the cultural atmosphere there with Qi Lou on both sides.

Getting There

Take Exit D2 from Changshou Lu Subway Station (Line 3). Once you are out from the station, turn left and walk along Huabao Lu, until you reach Dishifu Lu. Turn left and walk until you reach Xiajiu Lu. That's one end of Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street.
