The wondrous marine life with its unique and beautiful corals are ocean treasures that require protection and care, for us as well as our future generation to enjoy.
The above 5th series of Marine Life stamps were issued by Pos Malaysia in conjunction with 2001 Stamp Week. The following are featured in this stamp issue :
Kima, a giant clam, is the world's biggest cockle. An adult Kima can weigh up to 200kg. It is close to extinction.
Sea horse, a unique marine species which is small in size, found mostly at corals reefs and deep seas.
Sea star, or starfish, has a body that consists of a central disc, with mouth on the oral surface and anus on the aboral surface, and five arms, which make it looks like a star, hence its name.
Helmet shell, known locally as Siput Tapak Gajah, is found in sandy bottom and has a shell with attractive colour, size and shape. Due to demand for its shell to make decorative items, this species is close to extinction.
